Leica M2 with Summilux 1:1.4/50mm on Portra 400

On a sunny Sunday morning in May I visited Stameren, a park in the area called Utrechtse Heuvelrug. It has beautiful forests, and Stameren has the extra bonus of containing the highest point of this area, which is a staggering 41.1 meters high 😉 ! But no kidding, it is a beautiful area. My plan was to drive about another half hour further east, but when I saw the forest from the highway I decided to take the exit right there. It looked beautiful from a distance, why not stop here?

After a short walk along a wider track, passing this lovely house (above) at the edge of the forest, I found some great spots, with quite a diversity. The only drawback, as you can image, was that it is close to the highway so for most part of my time there I could hear traffic. But otherwise it was quiet, sunny and colourful!

You may have noticed that it’s been a while since my last post. The main reason is that I like to combine both digital and film results from an expedition, and it takes time to get film developed (I don’t do that myself). So my photography editing/publishing workflow has changed quite a bit. About a year ago I really enjoyed going out in the morning, editing in the afternoon and publishing in the evening. The last couple of months that shifted to waiting with publishing for at least a week, as I notice that I need more time to make a proper decision on what to do with my photos, and deciding on which ones to keep. Now adding film photography to the mix further increases the time. This has the disadvantage of being sometimes a bit late, like publishing spring photos in summer, but I now feel that sitting on the results for a while is better. So like my last posts about Bruges, I here present both digital (M240 photos) and film (M2 photos) results. Let me know if you prefer one over the other, and why, I would love to hear your opinion!

  1. I liked them all! Both cameras are great. It appears that Portra 400 was a good match for your processing of the M240 pics. I know there were lighting differences, but overall the images looked similar. If I had to choose, I would choose the Portra 400 colors.

I am also working on a project where I am taking a digital picture along with a film shot. I’m trying out pushing TRI-X 400 to 1600 in medium format. Thus far, I have 4 frames and 11 more to go. I plan to post the digital images with the film captures. I started this project back in April. At this rate, I might have something to post by the end of Summer, LoL.

Did you change your website? It looks different from the last time I was here. Nice job!

    1. Thanks Travis!
I am also shooting Tri-X at the moment, but those are very different from my digital files. Might have something to do with the camera/lens though. Anyway, I will be very interested to see how you get on with it.

I did change the website, nice of you to notice. I am still not sure if this look is a keeper…

  2. Hi Aukje,
I think that you have rekindled my desire to pick up a camera again!
I became acquainted with your work on 35mmc.
Now that i have had a look at your own site, I think that I see the way back for me.
Specifically, your pics with the M2 and Portra.
A cheap, but stunning IQ, digital fixed lens APCS “point and shoot” for digital work and..
a good quality body/high quality lens for film work.
Yep, I can see myself being motivated again.
Uiteraard, een nieuwe kleindochter is ook belangrijk.
    Groetjes

    1. Hi Ned, thanks for your kind words, and thanks for taking the time to visit my website. En uiteraard van harte gefeliciteerd met je kleindochter!
