Two weeks ago we had some shopping to do in the harbour in Amsterdam, and we had some time for lunch too. We ended up in the restaurant in a building called REM-island, which is shown in the photo below. This strange block on a couple of iron feet was built in the 1960’s to serve as a platform to broadcast commercial radio and television, which at that time was not allowed from the main land. Since a couple of years you can have lunch here (and dinner too). It is located at a pier in the harbour, so good views across the water. The photo above was taken from the restaurant.

It was a dull day, with fog and clouds, but the view from the restaurant was still interesting. In one direction you can see Amsterdam in the distance, and of course a lot of ships to be found here! Before we went up the stairs (ok, elevator 😉 ) I took a shot from street level.

After that it was time to order lunch, and while waiting for it I took a few shots from the inside and outside.

Above, you can can get a taste for the view from our table. The photo below shows the photos taken with the lens pushed to the window. There seems to be a small balcony around the restaurant outside, but I couldn’t find the door…

When we finally returned to our car we did end up at some kind of balustrade, and I made a photo from this position. The view was partly blocked by the fence, but I could recover some detail in post processing, and I think it makes it kind of interesting.
