This is part two of my photos from Bruges, this time photos that I shot inside, or as you will see, from the outside in…
We stayed in a wonderful hotel, De Orangerie, where I find a lot of inspiration for taking photos.
The photo above brought some new insights with respect to exposure. I made a couple of versions with my digital camera, but I wanted to capture this on Portra. I measured the light with my iPhone app, and tried the automatic exposure of the M. However, manual exposure seemed to work best here. The film version worked out fine, the digital camera had mixed results. In situations like this with difficult light automatic exposure is a bit tricky.
What I also discovered is that there is an ‘advanced’ light metering mode which gave better results than the ‘classic’ setting that I normally use. However, the shutter sounds different in advanced mode, and I don’t like the sound very much. So I set the M240 back to classic, and know that I have to take care in situations with a lot of back light! (Or just shoot film in these situations 😉 )
When we walked back from the restaurant where we had dinner I noticed a lot of nice shop-windows. Somehow they seem more beautiful in the evening, when the street is more quiet and the windows are nicely lit.
I was pleasantly surprised by al the beautiful features in the St Salvatore church, with the stained glass windows, but also beautiful detailed ceilings and chandeliers.
The hotel also serves great breakfast and high tea 🙂
That’s it for Brugge. Thanks for reading!
What a gorgeous pictures, Aukje! I enjoyed so much looking at them….
Thank you very much, Marc-paul. I enjoyed making them 🙂
