Time for some dutch coastline! Last Sunday I visited the dunes and beach near Goedereede in the south of The Netherlands. I went there in the afternoon, which means no golden hour, or nice low sun for backlight. But the morning was grey, and the afternoon sunny, so it wasn’t a difficult choice. And even a photographer likes to sleep in every now and then 😉 .
I don’t know if it’s because of the higher sun, but most photos turned out better in black and white than in color (at least in my opinion).
The dunes in Goedereede are pretty vast, and depending on the weather there can be a lot of water running through the area. A good thing I wore my high hiking boots, I could step through every watery or muddy pool.
Of course I couldn’t resist photographing my favourite subject so far: reed. Plenty of reed in the dunes, I really had to restrain myself. But I liked these enough to include them here 😉 .
Once you get through the dunes and arrive at the beach, it is very vast indeed. It was low tide, creating an empty space I have hardly ever seen in The Netherlands.
In the photo below, which was taken at the waterline, I like the different structures of sand, shelves, and waves.
And finally, a view back on the dunes, as seen from the waterline. Again, big space!
