I have been asked to do a photo shoot with Stoer Toeval, a rock-pop-cover band that I know (a good friend of mine plays the guitar). I have photographed them before during a performance, but that was my own initiative. Now we’re going to do a proper shoot, trying to make some nice group-photos. For preparation I went to Strijp S with my friend, to investigate its possibilities as shoot-location. While I was there with a member of the band to try shots, I managed to take a few opportunities to make a photo for myself 😉 .
Strijp S used to be an industrial property, owned by Philips. Philips has moved most of its activities away from the city centre, so it has been abandoned for some time. In the last couple of years the plot has been redeveloped into a nice area with shops, restaurants and apartments, but the industrial appearance has been maintained.
It was my first time at this location, but I like it a lot. The proof is in the pudding, so we have to wait and see if it will help me produce some decent band-photos, but I’m happy with the photos I made this time.
Of course there is the parking lot. I liked the red accents in this photo. Then when you get down to street level, there is a lot of iron beams and stairs, giving the real industrial feel.
There are also nice photographic opportunities inside. We discovered a restaurant called Radio Royaal, which is located in a former workshop. I don’t know about the food, but the people were really nice. We told them we were not there to have diner, but to explore the possibilities for a photo-shoot, and they welcomed us to have a look around. I have to go back there some day on my own, because there was something interesting in every corner. However, this is what I have produced in between discussing photo-shoot-options:
Finally a little experiment I did with my friend. I am not sure if this will work with a band of five, but I liked how it turned out this time.
Thanks for reading!
