Fall is almost over, cold mornings are getting more frequent and the trees are mostly bare without any leaves. But on these cold mornings light can be pretty much perfect and bring some new colours. I have definitely left the golden and orange fall colours behind, and am now in awe of the pastels I find when the fields are covered with ripe and the sun has not yet risen. I don’t have a lot of words, just wanted to share these.
This next one is actually from a little while ago, I shot it during the last week of September. But I think it fits the theme very well, and it also demonstrates how well Kodak Ektar can perform in these circumstances. In full sunlight I find Ektar a but too much saturated in color, but here (and in a few of the photos above) I absolutely love the colours and the depth of the image. Will definitely explore Ektar further this winter.
The last image is special to me, as this view completely took me by surprise. It is similar to my commute photos, so a very familiar spot, but this day I had taken a different route to take some shots in the fields with the ripe on the grass. I arrived here from a byway perpendicular to the canal, and I didn’t expect this. I knew there was some fog, which I have seen before, but I never saw this effect with the vapour on the canal. Due to the vapour you see the shadows of the trees as stripes across the canal, while the reflections are also still visible. I know it is subtle, but I love it.
Thanks for visiting!
Lovely images! I really like that last one, too! You really do an awesome job catching the morning light! I just received my scans from my very first roll of Ektar 100 in 35mm format. My very first time shooting Ektar was in Medium Format with my Mamiya a while back. I was extremely pleased with the results in the 120 format. My 35mm roll has some nice images as well. I will be posting these later after I finish my street photography posts at the end of the month.
On the 35mm images where I missed the exposure, I could see where I lost contrast and saturation. I easily brought the scene back to what I saw in post processing, but I prefer to keep the post processing at a minimal. In my opinion, spending too much time at the computer, means I didn’t do something right. I have not perfected Ektar just yet.
I am still experimenting. However, the more I shoot Ektar, the more I like it. I really love how Ektar renders the colors how I actually saw them. The only exception might be when you have an abundance of light. Ektar LOVES light! Those colors really start to pop under a bright sun. This could be good or bad depending on what you want. It’s not good for fair skinned people as well because it can really bring out the reds. I mainly want to shoot landscapes with Ektar. I plan to shoot more Ektar 100 in the new year. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Travis! Looking forward to your results with Ektar on 35mm. I do agree that the colors on Ektar are different in bright light. For me I prefer the morning light, and then I love Ektar. But that is after just two rolls…
Very nice pictures, Aukje! They capture the mood awesomely. I enjoyed looking at them.
I am looking forward to your next post….
Thanks MP, and thanks for stopping by!
