In the last couple of posts I have been complaining about the weather, wishing spring would come soon. Well, we (my man and I) decided not to wait any longer and give ourselves a week or two of summer. That is, we took a trip to Curaçao 🙂 . All the way here, which is a 10 hour flight from Amsterdam, there were clouds below us. At some point the sun started to get low enough to give good side-lighting on the clouds, leading to a great texture and nice colors in the picture above. Luckily the airplane wasn’t full, so I could choose a seat with a good view.
Although the weather in Curaçao is usually pretty constant with 30 degrees Celsius and mostly sun, we started off with a bit of rain. So when I got out early the first morning to shoot some photos at sunrise I got a bit disappointed and wet, and I had to return pretty fast as my camera was getting too wet to my liking. I took the photo below, and I think it is a rare sight here, as it doesn’t rain very often, but I do like the colors in the sky and the reflection on the wet road.
Later that morning I tried to take some more advantage from the rain, and catch the last raindrops falling from the palmtrees.
That was the last rain I have seen here. For the remaining of the time it has been pretty hot (hey, no complaints here). The climate does give some more interesting wildlife than we have in the Netherlands. So we tried to get some nice colourful shots of the iguanas that we see plenty of around here. Below a photo of my man setting up his gear for the shoot (he likes his tripod 😉 ). And yes, that is the ocean you see in the background…
The next two photos are the result of my efforts to capture this beautiful animal with my handheld camera. They were taken on two different days. The first one was taken on an overcast day, so the light is a bit softer. The iguanas come out of their shelter around 3 pm, when it is really hot. This time of day can be a challenge for the photographer, not only because of the risk of sunburns (hey, that’s part of the game), but also of the harsh lighting. You can see this in the second photo of the iguana which was taken a day later. There was no overcast and you can see the sharper shadows. On the other hand, the iguana seems to look more in place here, sunbathing…
I hope you enjoy the change from the rainy/foggy photo’s with a bit of color and a bit of sun. At least I enjoy writing my posts from the porch overlooking the ocean 🙂 .
