Sometimes you don’t have to go far to get some nice shots. In this post I want to show some photo’s I took in a park that’s located a 15 minute walk from my home. Again, not the best weather (when is spring coming?!!), but I didn’t let that discourage me. In the photo above and below you can see the wind over the water. Still a little bit of blue sky, though!

After the first shots covering the lake I decided it was time to get closer, so I took the Tele-Elmarit (90mm) out. In the photo below with the birds on their posts you can see a bit of flare that I’ve seen before with this lens. However in this picture it totally works for me. Without the flare the photo would have looked a bit dull and flat, the flare adds to the dynamics creating a more interesting image.

After this the sun disappeared, and it started to rain. That inspired me to get even closer as it was difficult to get interesting light over the lake. I like the shape of the feather-like grass against the dramatic sky in the next photo. Because of the wind it was difficult to focus, as the grass kept sweeping back and forth, but I managed to get some shots I liked.

The photo below feels like it has been taken on the beach. That is one advantage of the wind, you get waves even on a small lake. I liked the shape of the waves, but needed something to complete the picture. Then I saw this thing, I don’t even know what it is, but to me it had a nice enough shape to serve as a focal point for the photo.

On my way back home I had a brief encounter with a woman walking her dog. She looked at me with my raincoat and trousers, hood over my head, and asked me if there was a special reason for me being there taking photographs in the rain. I had no better answer than ‘it’s a hobby…’ 🙂
