I just published a new addition to the Imagine project, a cooperation with my friend Helen where we try to inspire each other with a text or an image. Helen’s text for Aukje
“Ik vroeg me af of het mogelijk was, zo opgaan in de natuur dat je er deel van werd, dat je zo voor een boom of een kluit aarde gehouden kon worden.”

“I was wondering if it was possible, to merge with nature to become a part of it, in a way that you could easily be taken for a tree or a clod of earth.”
I decided to go for a selfie for this one, which is new to me. I used the double exposure mode for this photo in order to be able to double myself. It didn’t quite work out as I think it is difficult enough to find one version of me (on the right under the orange bush), let alone the second (standing against the dark tree on the left). But I liked the colours and the fairytale quality of the unsharp instax photo.

“Twee dotjes tere weefsels, de druppels, de herhaling die bijna een spiegelbeeld is”.

The text is an adaptation of a quote from the novel Hier wonen ook mensen from Rob van Essen (2014), (p.68-69).
Helen’s comment (in Dutch):
Deze foto riep een verhaal bij me in herinnering dat ik vorig jaar las: ‘Het huis aan de Amstel’ van Rob van Essen. In dit verhaal proberen twee jongens zo lang mogelijk synchroon te fietsen en de spinnenwebben tussen hun fietsen intact te laten:
“Het was een groot web, en de draden bogen door onder het gewicht van de minieme druppeltjes die eraan hingen. De spin zelf bevond zich in het middelpunt, als een klein donker klompje. […]
‘We kunnen het web alleen heel laten als we samen wegfietsen. […] We moeten elkaar niet volgen, we moeten tegelijkertijd hetzelfde doen.’”
Helen’s comment (translated):
This photo made me think of a story I read last year: ‘House on the Amstel’. In this story two boys try to bike in sync as long as possible to preserve the spider webs between their bikes:
“It was a big spider web, and the threads began to sag because of the tiny drops hanging from it. The spider itself was sitting in the middle, as a small dark nugget. […]
‘We can only preserve the web if we start moving together. […] We must not follow each other, we must do the same thing simultaneously.'”
