It’s about two weeks into the new year, and its time for an update. I have been preoccupied with some big changes, as I started a new job in January. I also started a new photography project, more on that later!
With my new job comes a new commute. While previously I spend most of the journey to work on the highway, where it is really difficult to stop to take photos, I now ride my bike on a small road along a canal with interesting views. I bought a handle bar bag to have my camera’s at easy reach, and I leave the house early to allow for some photography time.
Although it is still quite dark this time of the year when I bike to and from work, I still took some photos with which I am fairly happy. Here are a couple of my favourites:

On my way home:

I also started a photo project. I read a lot about people starting small projects, specifically at the beginning of a new year, so I thought about starting one myself. I think it is fun to do and it may help me grow as a photographer. So here is my project: apart from photographing what I run into, I chose a spot on my route from which I plan to take a photo every time I pass it (which is not every day as I only go to the office 4 times a week). I called it the ‘Commute Project’, and I created a separate page for it. You can find all photos here, and this page will be updated with new photos regularly.

Below the first photo of the project, and so far my favourite. That off course is the consequence of such a project, not all days will have interesting light, sky or something other. But I am very curious to see the result end the end of the year (if I keep it up for that long!)

Thanks for reading!
This definitely beats the highway!
Hi Matthew. Yes, it certainly does! I am happy with the switch.
Nice images! I did a 365 project several years ago to help me hone my skills. It worked! Trying to produce an interesting shot everyday for a year forces you to be creative. I learned a lot during that project. I am sure your new project will do the same. Good Luck!
Thanks! I also started a ‘proper’ 365, taking at least one photo a day with a film camera. I am not sure if I am going to post them, or just keep it to myself for learning purposes.
Very nice and great project. Your commute looks idyllic.
Hi Tony! Thanks. And yes, I guess it is idyllic, I just sometimes forget that since it is quite familiar to me. And the past two weeks I got wet from the rain about 5 times, but still, it beats driving a car for almost 2 hours…
