Photoshop image of two photos of the same olive tree
Combined image of a morning and afternoon shot of the same olive tree

Last post I told you that I have spent a week in Greece, and most of the time I stayed at the same location. This resulted in quite some photos of the same subject, but shot at different conditions such as time of day or type of light. I have paired them up, it gives a nice overview of all the different colors you get in the sky and water.

I planned to do some photo expeditions early morning (before sunrise), to catch the soft diffuse light. My first attempt was on Friday morning, which was our first morning on Karpathos. I slightly overslept, so when I stepped out of the door I saw the sun just hitting the edge of the hill in front of me (photo below left). After this it got bright pretty fast, so the rest of the photos of this morning didn’t make the cut. My next attempt was on Saturday morning. I set my alarm at 5.20 hours to make sure that I’d be there before the sun was up. When I walked out of the door a few minutes later, I saw a completely overcast sky (middle photo below)! No pretty pastel colors 🙁 ! I almost went back to bed, but I decided that this was actually quite rare, and that the clouds could give my photos some mystique (and I do like the photos made on this morning). My final morning-expedition was on Monday, when I encountered an almost clear sky with some small clouds (below, right).

The rest of this post shows pairs of photos made in a different light. Some are pairs of the cloudy and sunny morning. Some are pairs of a morning and evening (late afternoon) shoot. In the caption (scroll over the photo) you can see the day and time a photo was shot. As I didn’t plan this post, not all photo-pairs have matching viewpoints, but I hope you enjoy them as pairs as much as I do.

Thanks for reading!
