When my man and I visited the Caribbean it was still winter, but since the weather is improving I thought it is a good time to share some sunny photos from our trip.

We started with a few days on Bonaire, the smallest of the ABC islands in the Southern Caribbean. We stayed in a lovely house on the boulevard at the edge of Kralendijk, the Capital of Bonaire (sounds bigger than it is, Kralendijk is, as is Bonaire, very small šŸ™‚ ). Laying on the porch I could hear the gentle rolling of the waves onto the pebbled beach, and the shore was scattered with sailing and fishing boats. I spend a few early mornings (thank goodness for jet lag!) and afternoons on this boulevard and beach capturing the coloured skies. Truly a wonderful place to stay! Note: the photo with the branches around the boat was taken from the kitchen window, and the photo with the cacti was taken in the garden.

We also explored the island with a car, one famous stop is 1000-steps beach, a beach with great diving and snorkelling that can be reached by a steep staircase. Not by a long shot are there 1000 steps, but apparently with diving gear on it feels like it!

My favourite part of Bonaire however is the Washington Slagbaai National Park. The landscape is so unusual for my European frame of mind that I feel as if on the moon. It’s a dry place, which I never anticipated I would appreciate, but the vastness of it and the rock formations are strangely pulling me in. I had planned to shoot this park on Velvia, but I hadn’t finished my roll of Ektar yet, so Ektar it is. I am still pretty happy with the results, Ektar works well on not too bright occasions, and it was an overcast day with even a drop of rain now and then.

This next beach, called Wayaka II, is my favourite beach on Bonaire (it’s also part of the Washington Slagbaai National Park):

The second part of our trip we spent on CuraƧao, also part of the ABC islands. We don’t explore much on CuraƧao, it’s mostly our relaxing and snorkelling place. We stayed in a ridiculously fancy resort with nice gardens. I made a photo from the same spot with my 15mm lens and my 90mm one, I think the result is rather amusing:

Our favourite day on CuraƧao however is spent on Karakter beach, which apart from good snorkelling and good food, also provides a few photo opportunities:

That’s it for the ‘on land’ photos from the Caribbean, next post is all about the underwater world. Thanks for reading!
